It seems the Panthers learnt something from this week’s episode – you can never have enough classy outside backs.
And they’ve extended one of their classiest. Penrith have announced that they’ve re-signed centre Dean Whare for a further five years. The deal will see Whare remain at Penrith until the end of 2022.
In the announcement, Penrith General Manager of Football, Phil Gould, said that Whare “did not seek offers from other clubs”. This says a lot for the culture the Panthers have built within their squad. A talented, international-calibre centre would surely have commanded more money from other clubs (*cough* Wests Tigers *cough*) than the Panthers, who are dripping with outside backs.
Whare has played 95 first grade matches for Penrith and Manly, and 15 Tests for New Zealand.
