UPDATE 13/4 @9:05 pm: Thankfully, we can still trust Fairfax to get it right. In contrast with News’ original report, SMH is reporting that the deal is in fact for 4 years, and worth approximately $4 million.
News have since updated their own piece accordingly. To be fair, this isn’t the first time this week that News have got it wrong. And they were only out by 1.9 million. That’s close, right?
Jack Bird has flown the coop.
In news that lends itself to a variety of terrible bird-related puns, News is reporting that Cronulla utility Jack Bird will next year fly north for the winter, having signed a 3-year, $2.1 million deal with the Brisbane Broncos.
In signing with the Broncos, Bird rejected a larger offer to join the Newcastle Knights, as well as a smaller offer from the Sharks, and will likely get fans from both clubs all in a flap. (OK, that one didn’t really work.)
Contrary to recent media reports that the Broncos were pursuing Bird to play lock forward, News suggest that the opportunity to play five-eighth alongside Brisbane star Anthony Milford was a major factor in Bird signing.
Bird has made 55 appearances since making his debut for the Sharks in 2015, and has played 2 Origins for New South Wales.
