In the NRL’s game of halves musical chairs, the Warriors are doing their best to ensure that when the music stops, they’re not left standing awkwardly chairless, and having to move over to the side of the room.
According to NRL.com, the Warriors are closing in on an extension with star halfback Shaun Johnson, with the Kiwi number 7 quoted on Friday as saying he’s “close”.
“It’s hopefully going to be all sorted very soon,” Johnson added. “The thrill of knowing what this club can do to rugby league in New Zealand is still something I want to be a part of.”
“I’m sure we’ll have it all sorted soon enough.”
The news comes less than 24 hours after a report emerged that Warriors five-eighth Kieran Foran is all but certain to head to the Bulldogs next year, though the Warriors aren’t conceding that he’s out the door yet, either.
“He may go back to Sydney and he may still stay here,” said Warriors CEO Jim Doyle. “At this point in time, he’s not signed with anyone.”
In fairness to the original report though, it explicitly said that no paperwork had yet been filed, however that’s not to say that Foran has yet to make up his mind.
Regardless, it’s admirable that the Warriors won’t give up without a fight.
