It sounds like the Dragons and their star fullback/centre Josh Dugan may be about to go their separate ways.
According to News, Dragons recruitment boss Ian Millward has released a video statement, which sounds a lot like a white flag in the club’s pursuit of a Dugan extension.
“We’ve been advised by his management that they have a rival club (believed to be the Sharks) that have made a significant offer,” Millward said. “They’re very high expectations for us to meet, both the length of the contract and the salary.”
“We’re not in a position at the moment to meet those expectations.”
The news comes on the same day that the Tigers announced the signing of Dragons prop Russell Packer for 2018.
Dragons fans must be wondering why they can’t have nice things.
Dugan has played 145 first grade matches for the Dragons and Raiders, 9 Origins for New South Wales, and 7 Tests for Australia.
He is #7 on The Obstruction Rule’s Free Agent Top 100.
