Despite missing the finals last year, primarily due to his inability to see that Dylan Walker wasn’t a five-eighth until the season was lost, Sea Eagles coach Trent Barrett has made all the right moves in 2017, guiding a subjectively sub-par roster to within a whisker of the Top 4, mid-way through the season.
According to Fox Sports, he’s set to be rewarded for the impressive start, with negotiations under way for a new deal.
“I’ve had a couple of discussions with Bob (Fulton),” Barrett said.
However, there’s no reason for the Sea Eagles to rush a decision, particularly given how ordinary they were a season ago. With games against heavyweights the Storm, Dragons, Sharks and Roosters still on their schedule, there’s still plenty of time for the 2017 Sea Eagles to go off the rails.
Just ask the Bulldogs.
