He may be under contract for 2018, but that hasn’t stopped rival clubs expressing their interest in Roosters utility Connor Watson.
According to the Newcastle Herald, the talented youngster has caught the eye of the Knights, Tigers and Eels, with Newcastle in the box seat (though given the source is the local rag, you can make of that what you will).
The report suggests that the Roosters may consider releasing him from the final year of his contract in order to pursue a starting position elsewhere (with James Tedesco, Luke Keary and Mitchell Pearce all at the club in 2018, Watson’s path is well blocked at the Roosters).
Watson was reportedly a Knights fan growing up, and with a halves position available, as well as the most salary cap space, it does make sense that the Knights would be a good fit, if the Roosters were to grant a release.
Watson has played 27 first grade games for the Roosters since his debut last year.
