Plenty of people would have predicted that Dragons halfback Josh McCrone will be departing St George Illawarra at the end of this season, when his contract concludes and Ben Hunt arrives. What’s perhaps less expected is that McCrone could be heading…to Canada?
Yet, according to TotalRL, that looks like being the case. McCrone, who’s been keeping the seat warm this year until Hunt arrives from Brisbane, is reportedly in negotiations with the Toronto Wolfpack, with a view towards joining the Canadian club for their expected promotion to the Championship in 2018.
It’s suggested that a deal could be finalised in the coming weeks.
The Wolfpack have a stacked roster for League One, including former NRL star Fuifui Moi Moi, English international Ryan Bailey, and Rhys Jacks, brother of Storm youngster Ryley Jacks. They’re currently undefeated after 10 games, with a points differential of +517.
McCrone has played 153 first grade games for the Dragons and Raiders.
He’s #72 on The Obstruction Rule’s Free Agent Top 100.
