The Rabbitohs have today announced the re-signing of winger Alex Johnston on a three-year deal. This will see Johnston remain at Redfern until the end of 2020.
Johnston was believed to be holding out in the hope of finding a fullback spot somewhere in the NRL. The Tigers were reported as a possible home, but that option evaporated with their signing of Tui Lolohea.
So, with teams not beating down his door to add him as a fullback, signing on as a winger who can deputise for an aging custodian is probably the next best thing.
Johnston has played 75 first grade matches for the Rabbitohs, and 1 Test for Australia.
He was #20 on The Obstruction Rule’s Free Agent Top 100.
