If there’s been a bright spot in an otherwise forgettable year for the Tigers, it’s been the surprisingly impressive form they’ve gotten from hooker Matt McIlwrick. So, it should come as no surprise that the Tigers are happy to see him return next year.
The Tigers today announced the re-signing of McIlwrick on a new two-year deal, that will see him remain at Concord until the end of 2019. It was first reported that he’d agreed to re-sign three weeks ago.
They’ve already extended hooker-of-the-future Jacob Liddle, and keeping McIlwrick for a further couple of seasons will allow a smooth transition whenever Liddle is ready to take over as the starter.
McIlwrick has played 43 first grade games for the Tigers, Sharks, Roosters and Raiders.
He’s #51 on The Obstruction Rule’s Free Agent Top 100.
