The Roosters seem to have been putting all their recruitment and retention efforts into their 2018 backline lately, with the latest being their negotiations with Blake Ferguson and Michael Gordon. At some point though, they’re going to have to begin thinking about their forwards.
They’ve so far lost prop Kane Evans to the Eels for next year, as well as second-rower Aidan Guerra to the Knights. With big money spent on the recruitment of Tigers fullback James Tedesco though, they might have to look in the bargain bin to add forwards depth.
According to Fox Sports, they may be prepared to do just that, with reports that the Bondi-based club are considering an approach to off-contract Sea Eagles forward Brenton Lawrence.
Lawrence has been in excellent form this season, following a couple of injury-affected seasons on the Northern Beaches. He’s played a critical role in the reinvigorated Sea Eagles pack, and would likely command more interest if it weren’t for his advancing age – he’ll be 33 by next season.
Fox reported a fortnight ago that the Tigers, too, were considering making a play for him, though there’s yet to be any reports of concrete offers, making the Super League sound like his most likely destination at this point.
Lawrence has played 93 matches for the Sea Eagles and Titans.
He’s #35 on The Obstruction Rule’s Free Agent Top 100.
