The Warriors have made no secret of their plans to upgrade their forward pack for next year, and in the meantime, they’re in no rush to re-sign their existing big men.
Which has put Warriors forward Albert Vete in the uncomfortable position of having to wait for an offer from the Warriors that may never arrive.
“Not right now,” said Vete, in regards to getting a new deal. “It is still in talks with my manager about what is the best thing for me moving forward, whether that is staying here or going overseas.”
“I do want to stay, but I’ve also got to be pretty smart with where I want to go with my footy.”
You’d expect that if the Warriors are unable to lure any of their big-name targets for 2017 (they’ve tried for Broncos forward Adam Blair and Storm giant Nelson Asofa-Solomona, so far without success), that they may turn back to the guys they’ve already got it.
But by that point, it remains to be seen if they’ll still be available, or if the Warriors will be left without a dance partner.
Vete has played 43 matches for the Warriors, and 1 Test for Tonga.
He’s #40 on The Obstruction Rule’s Free Agent Top 100.
