It sounds like Josh McCrone won’t be the only Dragon heading to Canada next year.
According to 7Sport, Dragons winger Kalifa Faifai Loa has been granted a release from the remainder of his contract in order to join the Toronto Wolfpack. The initial report doesn’t confirm whether he’ll join immediately or at season’s end (though it’s hard to imagine he’d be required to head over immediately – they’re undefeated after 13 games, with a points differential of +649).
He’s expected to be joined in 2018 by Dragons teammate McCrone, who’s been linked to the Canadian club on a two-year deal.
Faifai Loa has hardly featured in first grade in 2017, but any player with NRL and international experience such as him will be a huge asset to a fledgling club like Toronto as they progress towards Super League.
Faifai Loa has played 66 first grade games for the Dragons, Titans and Cowboys, 2 Tests for New Zealand, and 1 for Samoa.
