It may seem like re-shuffling the deck-chairs, but the Knights have made a change to their captaincy. Specifically, they’ve added one.
According to the Newcastle Herald, the Knights have promoted utility Jamie Buhrer to co-captain, alongside Sione Mata’utia.
The move is somewhat surprising, given that there are just 9 games remaining, and the Knights’ season is well past the point of no return.
However, looking back, Buhrer was out injured when Mata’utia assumed the captaincy in Round 8, so it’s entirely possible that Buhrer would have been captain in the first place had he been available, and adding him as a co-captain is surely more desirable than demoting two captains in one year.
Buhrer has played 135 first grade games for the Knights and Sea Eagles, and 1 Origin for New South Wales.
