It was reported three weeks ago that Roosters outside back Blake Ferguson had commenced negotiations for a contract extension. Now, Ferguson himself has told nrl.com that the deal is close to being finalised.
“It’s pretty close,” Ferguson said. “The thing that’s baulking it is the CBA and all the salary cap stuff. I just want to get it sorted when all that’s sorted, hopefully in the next couple of weeks.”
“I’m happy with all the figures and all that, so I just want to be paid what I’m worth.”
Keeping Ferguson would keep the Roosters’ all-star backline together next year, after the club already re-signed fullback Michael Gordon and winger Daniel Tupou. In addition, Tigers fullback James Tedesco is on his way to Bondi in 2018, completing arguably the best set of backs in the NRL.
Ferguson has played 156 first grade games for the Roosters, Raiders and Sharks, 6 Origins for New South Wales, and 7 Tests for Australia.
