In a generally disappointing team, Tigers lock Elijah Taylor has been arguably their most reliable performer, and that hasn’t gone unnoticed by the club.
According to Fox Sports, Taylor and the Tigers are in negotiations for a long-term deal, with a resolution expected by the end of the month.
The report describes Taylor as being “secretly off contract”, though it’s not much of a secret – it was reported over a month ago that Taylor wasn’t likely to activate his 2018 option, with Taylor himself saying at the time that “it might be my last contract I sign, so it has to be a smart and wise decision” (perhaps Fox Sports have a loose definition of the word ‘secret’).
Presumably he’s liked what he’s seen from the club over the past 6 weeks though, and now considers it smart and wise to sign on for the long haul.
Taylor has played 136 first grade matches for the Tigers, Panthers and Warriors, and 10 Tests for New Zealand.
