The next generation of NRL players sure are made tough.
Less than a week after it was revealed that Rabbitohs back-rower Angus Crichton has been playing on a broken foot, it turns out that Knights utility Luke Yates has a similarly high pain threshold.
According to the Newcastle Herald, Yates has a ruptured AC joint, and is playing on regardless.
“I got it needled last week, but I think I’ll be able to play without a needle this week,” Yates said. “I was thinking I was probably done for the season.”
“If it was a grade one or two, I would get a lot more pain, because the ligaments are still intact.”
“Because it’s completely gone, I’ve just got to get it stable around the area and then I’m good to go.”
Yates is one of a number of off-contract Knights who are playing for a 2018 contract. If physical toughness impresses Nathan Brown, that contract offer shouldn’t be too far away.
Yates has played 14 games for the Knights, since making his first grade debut in Round 1 this year.
