UPDATE 24/7 @ 10:33pm: The Raiders have since clarified that the offer on the table for Taylor is the same original offer, and they did not allow the option to lapse.
Having turned in his best performance of the year a fortnight ago to beat the Dragons, the Raiders have decided to offer Raiders giant Dave Taylor a new contract. However, that doesn’t mean he’s a certainty to remain in the nation’s capital.
According to Fox Sports, Taylor has attracted the interest of multiple Super League clubs, and as a result, is yet to agree to a 2018 return.
“We’ve got an offer on the table for him,” said Raiders recruitment manager Peter Mulholland. “Whether he accepts it or not is up to him.”
“I know he’s got a lot of interest from a couple of overseas clubs again.”
“We’ve got a limit we can put on the deal. If he accepts it, that’s great; if he doesn’t, then we’ve had some part in turning his career around, we hope.”
If the Raiders ultimately lose him, they’ll only have themselves to blame, having chosen to allow their 2018 option to lapse while Taylor struggled to earn a place in first grade. Now that he’s there, the potential everybody suspected was inside Taylor is there for all to see, and he may be playing his way out of their price range.
Taylor has played 175 first grade games for the Raiders, Titans, Rabbitohs and Broncos, 8 Origins for Queensland, and 1 Test for Australia.
He’s #63 on The Obstruction Rule’s Free Agent Top 100.
