It says a lot about the continued popularity of Raiders forward Dave Taylor that his 2018 playing future has become the talk of rugby league over the past three days. After Fox Sports and The Canberra Times posted contradictory articles about the status of his offer from the Raiders on Monday, nrl.com yesterday reported that Taylor was likely to leave the Raiders, anyway. Now, SMH have revealed his likely destination.
According to the SMH report, Taylor is expected to join the Toronto Wolfpack in the English Championship next season. It’s reported that they’ve offered Taylor a three-year, $1 million deal, dwarfing the $85,000 option he had on the table from the Raiders.
It’s a shame for NRL fans to lose an entertaining character such as Taylor, especially after he only just returned to our shores. However, after he arrived in Canberra on a train-and-trial contract in a final effort to kick-start his career; to have secured a million-dollar contract to play with the pioneering Canadian expansion team is what we’d call a resounding success.
Taylor has played 175 first grade games for the Raiders, Titans, Rabbitohs and Broncos, 8 Origins for Queensland, and 1 Test for Australia.
