Well if Laurie Daley is going to get an extension after guiding the Blues to a 4th series loss in 5 attempts, Kevin Walters must be a shoo-in after going undefeated in both of his.
That’s apparently the case, with The Courier-Mail’s Pete Badel reporting that Walters is in talks for a multi-year extension.
“Kevin Walters, the Maroons coach, he is extending his stay with the Maroons,” Badel told NRL Tonight. “He will sign a multi-year extension.”
“They’re still finalising the terms but I’m told it will be at least a two-year extension, that will take him until the end of 2020.”
There had been some speculation that Walters’ position may have been in jeopardy if the Maroons had lost, with Broncos coach Wayne Bennett touted as a possible replacement; however the Maroons put paid to that with their resounding 22-6 victory in Game 3.
Walters has coached the Maroons in six Origins, with a career winning percentage of 67%.
