It’s not a huge update, but following on from a report a month ago that the Rabbitohs had commenced talks with boom second-rower Angus Crichton about an extension, it’s now been reported that we can upgrade those talks to “advanced”.
According to Fox Sports’ Nathan Ryan on Market Watch, the Rabbitohs are close to extending Crichton for a further two* years.
“South Sydney are in advanced talks to extend him for a further three years,” Ryan said. “He doesn’t come off contract until next season, but the Rabbitohs, they are smart; they are aware that there is a lot of interest in Angus Crichton.”
“Once the deal is done, he’ll be in the burrow until the end of 2020.” *(With Crichton already under contract for 2018, a further three years would technically mean until the end of 2021, but we think we know what he meant.)
Crichton has previously been linked to the Roosters, but assuming that the Rabbitohs can get the deal done before November 1, the Roosters won’t even have a chance to talk to him, let alone negotiate.
Crichton has played 27 first grade games for the Rabbitohs since his debut last year.
