He doesn’t yet have a home for 2018, but Tigers winger Kevin Naiqama remains confident of getting an NRL deal somewhere, telling Fox Sports that he wants to get something sorted “within the week“.
“My management are still talking to a few clubs,” Naiqama said. “There’s a chance I could still be here next year.”
“Hopefully we’ll get something sorted within the week, if not, next week.”
“My number 1 goal is to stay here, whether that’s at the Tigers or somewhere else.”
“I want to be in the NRL, and my manager is trying to sort something out.”
Several Super League clubs have been reported as interested in Naiqama if he were to lower his asking price, however he’s got no interest in heading to England, and said he hasn’t spoken to them.
That leaves the most likely outcome a relatively modest deal as serviceable depth somewhere around the NRL. You’d have to think that he’d be of the most value where he is, given the lack of first grade quality depth in the Tigers backline (even allowing for the pending arrivals of Mahe Fonua and Corey Thompson from England).
Wherever he ends up, we should find out soon enough.
