On Monday, Knights CEO Matt Gidley said he’d like to meet with the manager of Adam Blair, “if he is genuinely keen to talk to us”. We guess he’s genuinely keen to talk to them.
According to the Courier-Mail’s Pete Badel, via Fox Sports, the Knights will meet with Blair’s manager today (Thursday).
“The big money is coming in for Adam Blair,” said Badel. “The Warriors are talking about offering $700,000 a season for Blair.”
“The Dragons have been offered his services, and Newcastle are coming in hard – they will meet with his manager (on Thursday).”
It had been reported earlier that Blair had already made his mind up to join the Warriors, and with good reason – if they’re offering four years at $700,000 per season, it would have been fair for Blair to assume that that was likely to be his best offer.
Few would have predicted that the market for Blair would have been as hot as it is (particularly given the relatively lukewarm interest in other available forwards, like Manly-bound Sam Tagataese, for example), but it is what it is, and we certainly don’t blame Blair for making the most of a surprising opportunity.
If he can both set himself up for life and provide veteran leadership for a team desperately craving forwards, all the more power to him.
