The Cowboys have been pursuing Warriors forward Charlie Gubb for months, and after it was reported a fortnight ago that he was close to signing on with North Queensland, it looked like a done deal.
According to Fox Sports reporter Nathan Ryan on his Market Watch blog, Gubb’s deal with the Cowboys has fallen through, due to a “better opportunity at another club“.
Which obviously makes the next question: who’s that other club?
On that, Ryan would only hint that “it’s not a Sydney club”. Which essentially narrows the options down to six (given that the Warriors have already made it clear that they won’t be bringing him back).
But of course, Ryan isn’t the only source for the hottest Gubb news.
Yesterday, Channel 7 Townsville reporter Antony Stewart tweeted similar news on Gubb, and stated that he’d heard that Gubb’s next destination is “out of Dragons, Sharks and Raiders“.
Now, combining those two tidbits – and regarding the Dragons as a Sydney team, rather than an Illawarra team – it sounds as though the Raiders could be looming as Gubb’s next club (which would make sense, as a replacement for the expected departure of Dave Taylor).
