The Knights’ 2018 recruitment drive remains in full swing, with Sharks centre Gerard Beale the latest player on Newcastle’s radar.
According to Newcastle Sunday, via Nothing But Knights, Knights coach Nathan Brown has confirmed the club’s interest in Beale, who reportedly met with the Knights last week. It’s indicated that Beale’s management instigated the discussions.
“He’s a player of interest to us, I can confirm that,” Brown said. “Where things are currently at, I am not too sure, to be honest.”
“It’s my understanding the Sharks are hoping to re-sign him, so you would probably think they are favourites to keep him.”
Of course, this isn’t the first time Brown has dropped the “favourites” line – he declared that the Warriors were “favourites” to sign Blair a fortnight ago, less than a week before reports emerged suggesting that the Knights were the favourites to get him.
So, it’s entirely possible that Brown is just foxing. However, all we know at this point, is that Beale remains available – and the Knights are interested.
Beale has played 160 first grade games for the Sharks, Dragons and Broncos, and 10 Tests for New Zealand.
