If Sharks forward Chris Heighington hopes to play on beyond his 36th birthday, he’s going to have to do it somewhere else.
According to 7Sport, the Sharks have opted not to offer Heighington a new deal, after already re-signing fellow aging veterans Paul Gallen and Luke Lewis earlier in the year.
The report assumes that Heighington will therefore retire, although we think it’s a bit presumptuous (and somewhat offensive) to assume that Heighington is finished.
He said earlier in the season that he hoped to play on, but would retire if he was unable to find an NRL club for next season. Last year, he was linked to a move to the Knights before finally re-signing with the Sharks, so it’s not impossible that someone might find a spot for him (if perhaps unlikely).
Regardless, we can apparently rule out the Sharks as an option.
