The Warriors have a hole to fill at five-eighth next year with Kieran Foran moving on, and so far, they’ve been unable to find a replacement.
According to 7Sport, their latest target is Storm five-eighth Blake Green.
On the surface, Green seems like the perfect option for New Zealand; he’d offer a steady presence to compliment the more creative Shaun Johnson (Green is already performing this role at the Sea Eagles). There’s just one catch though – Green is still under contract for next year.
According to the report, Green has sought an extension with the Sea Eagles, which has so far been knocked back. Green shares an agent with Warriors coach Stephen Kearney, making him aware of the situation, and possibly sparking the interest.
The report acknowledges that it would appear unlikely that the Sea Eagles would release Green early, although if they don’t view him as a long-term solution at the position, it’s not impossible.
The report also mentions Sharks utility back Gerard Beale as a Warriors target. Beale has been linked to the Knights recently, and if the Warriors spark a bidding war, it’d appear unlikely that he’d remain in Cronulla (he only began looking elsewhere because he was unsatisfied with the Sharks’ one-year offer).
It remains to be seen how many (of any) of the Warriors’ targets actually cross the Tasman, but you certainly can’t accuse them of not trying.
