With the Storm having tied down their entire starting three-quarter line for next year, utility back Young Tonumaipea would appear to be surplus to requirements. And that hasn’t gone unnoticed.
According to SMH, the Rabbitohs have expressed their interest in bringing Tonumaipea to South Sydney, to help bolster a backline that’ll lose starters Aaron Gray and Bryson Goodwin in 2018.
Tonumaipea is currently contracted to the Storm for next year, with a player option for 2019; but has featured in just six matches for the Storm this season.
It remains to be seen whether or not he’s even interested in a move, but if he wants to play regular first grade, he mightn’t have a choice.
Tonumaipea has played 36 first grade games for the Storm since his debut in 2014.
