The Rabbitohs have tonight announced that Michael Maguire won’t return as head coach in 2018, via an eloquently written statement (their statement guy should put in for a raise).
The statement explains that they’ve “agreed to part company“, it’s “in the best interest of all parties”, and “it’s time for the club to go along a different path” (admittedly, it reads a lot like a teenage break-up letter).
There’s no mention of who they’re leaving Maguire for, but it’s expected that assistant coach Anthony Seibold could step into the role.
Maguire coached 143 first grade games at the Rabbitohs, bringing the club a premiership in 2014.
He’s expected to head to the Super League, potentially with Warrington.
