The Panthers are reportedly hoping to have their captain, Matt Moylan, back on deck for their semi final against the Broncos on Friday night, however the decision on his availability won’t be made by the coaching staff.
According to SMH, Moylan’s potential availability will instead be determined by medical experts, following a counseling session this week.
After standing him down a fortnight ago due to personal health issues, the Panthers have decided to prioritise Moylan’s well-being over their own self-interest, and turned the decision on his short-term footballing future over to the medical professionals.
As a result, they’ll likely need to name Moylan in their 21-man squad for the match, despite not knowing yet if he’ll actually be available to play; or else risk having to apply for a special exemption later in the week (which would be no guarantee of being approved).
Assuming that what’s being reported is accurate, the Panthers deserve to be commended for choosing to place the well-being of a young man over their own desire to kick the Broncos’ butts.
You’d hope that all teams would make the same decision under the circumstances.
