It was reported last month that the Sharks have opted against offering forward Chris Heighington a new deal for 2018, but if that’s true, it sounds like they forgot to tell the man himself.
According to Fox Sports, Heighington has hinted at the possibility of playing on next year… with the Sharks.
“I’m still pretty keen to go around,” Heighington said. “The body’s feeling pretty good, so we’ll just have to wait and see.”
When asked if he’d have the option to do so with the Sharks, he reportedly answered: “Yeah. I would say yeah.”
At the right price, it’s hard to argue with the value of having an extra experienced forward in the squad, although with fellow elder statesmen Paul Gallen and Luke Lewis also locked in for next year, they’re running the risk of creating a sudden experience vacuum in 2019.
Heighington has played 317 first grade games for the Sharks and Tigers, and 4 Tests for England.
