So much for waiting until next week.
The Bulldogs have this afternoon announced that they’ve terminated the contract of head coach Des Hasler, effective immediately.
In a statement, Bulldogs chairperson Ray Dib said that “the heads of agreement reached with Des Hasler for an extension of his contract were non-binding, and a decision has been made not to renew his contract for next year”.
The wording of the announcement sounds kinder than saying ‘we’ve sacked him’ (but less warm than the conscious uncoupling of the Rabbitohs and Michael Maguire), however doesn’t change the fact that they did decide to renew his contract earlier this year – making this, in practice, a sacking.
Hasler is now free to pursue opportunities elsewhere (the Titans and Blues gigs remain available), while the Bulldogs will now begin the process of appointing a new coach.
