The sacking of Bulldogs coach Des Hasler couldn’t have come at a better time for hooker Michael Lichaa, who’s hoping to get a new offer from Canterbury, and is quickly running out of alternatives.
With the Knights also dropping out of the race for Lichaa after reportedly opting for Storm hooker Slade Griffin instead, that leaves the Bulldogs as his most likely option.
The obvious catch there is the Bulldogs’ salary cap situation. It’s been speculated this week that the club still needs to cut another player in order to be cap compliant in 2018, which surely complicates their ability to offer Lichaa a contract (or at least a decent one).
But importantly, Hasler – who’s coaching style didn’t appear to mesh well with the talents of Lichaa – is now gone, which surely puts Lichaa at least one step closer to staying at Belmore.
