The Sharks’ apparent quest to reconstruct the 2013 Blues team at Cronulla next year is well under way, with Titans fullback Jarryd Hayne reportedly their latest target.
According to WWOS reporter The Mole, the Sharks are “considering making an offer” for Hayne, who still has a year to run on his contract with the Gold Coast.
It’s believed that the Titans would be willing to pay a portion of Hayne’s hefty salary next year in order to get him off the books.
At the Sharks, Hayne would join fellow 2013 Blues Paul Gallen, Luke Lewis, Andrew Fifita and Josh Dugan. The Sharks have also been recently linked to 2013 Blue Brett Morris, although it’s unclear how the Hayne news impacts their pursuit of the Bulldogs winger (it’s conceivably possible that the Hayne story has been deliberately leaked by Cronulla in order to pressure the Bulldogs into releasing Morris on favourable terms; but that would be a cynical point of view).
At least signing old New South Wales players makes a refreshing change from the Sharks’ typical recruitment strategy – poaching players from Penrith.
