The rugby league career of former Sharks half Todd Carney now rests in the hands of NRL boss Todd Greenberg, after the Cowboys lodged a contract for Carney with the game’s governing body.
According to Fox Sports reporter Brent Read, Carney is now set to meet with Greenberg this week, where he’s expected to present his case for re-registration. A decision on Carney is expected to take “a bit longer than (a few weeks)”.
Pressure to allow Carney’s return has intensified following the NRL’s decision to allow Broncos forward Matt Lodge to return to the game, though it’s worth noting that their situations are not identical (Carney, for example, has never threatened to kill anyone; while Lodge, on the other hand, has presumably never been involved in a “bubbling” incident. It’s like apples and oranges.)
