If the Rabbitohs are hoping to replace departing second-rower Angus Crichton with an elite import, they’d want to get a wriggle on, as free agency’s top prospects are disappearing by the day.
After representative edge forwards Felise Kaufusi re-signed with the Storm this week, and Josh Papalii reportedly set to remain in Canberra, Broncos star Matt Gillett is the next to come off the market, after agreeing to an extension with the Broncos.
According to nrl.com, Gillett has agreed to an upgrade and extension that will see him remain in Brisbane until the end of 2022… and the Broncos aren’t done yet.
The same report indicates that the Broncos hope to make fellow edge forward Jaydn Su’a their next priority, despite the advances of South Sydney.
If they’re successful, the Broncos will have locked in the bulk of their forward pack for next year already – and leave the Rabbitohs scrambling for options.
Gillett has played 183 first grade games for the Broncos, 18 Origins for Queensland, and 12 Tests for Australia.
