First Cooper Cronk quit the Storm for love and now they’re set to lose another top grader to God. Melbourne just can’t catch a break.
According to The Daily Telegraph, Storm outside back Young Tonumaipea is set to quit the Storm mid-season, in order to take up a Mormon mission in Berlin.
The report indicates that Tonumaipea will depart the club at the conclusion of the State of Origin series, and that he’d be welcome back at the Storm when he’s finished in two years.
Tonumaipea’s departure will cost him about $200,000 in foregone wages from the remaining year-and-a-half of his contract.
Storm boss Dave Donaghy added that “he goes with our blessing”. He didn’t elaborate on whether or not that was intended as a pun.
Tonumaipea has played 40 first grade games for the Storm, and 5 Tests for Samoa.
