The Raiders are currently in the process of re-signing all their off-contract stars who they hope to keep. One name notably not on that list is five-eighth Blake Austin. That doesn’t mean Austin will be without a home for 2019, however.
According to WWOS reporter The Mole, there are currently two NRL clubs competing for Austin’s signature – the Eels, and the Storm.
The report suggests that the Eels may be in the box seat due to Austin’s desire to return home to Western Sydney (he’s a Panthers junior, and was born in Parramatta), however the lure of playing under Storm coach Craig Bellamy could very well win him over.
At the Eels, Austin would likely replace the apparently unwanted Corey Norman, while at the Storm, he’d have an opportunity to slot into their halves, either alongside or instead of Cameron Munster (who may switch back to fullback when Billy Slater retires).
Austin has played 112 first grade games for the Raiders, Tigers and Panthers.
