He’s still got two years to run on his contract, but that doesn’t mean the Panthers aren’t thinking about extending halfback Nathan Cleary.
According to Fox Sports, the Panthers have already held internal discussions about extending the young star, with Penrith boss Phil Gould describing him as “a franchise player”.
“He’s a player I’d like to see play his whole career at the club,” Gould said. “No one really knows what the game is going to look like in 12 months let alone in 10 years time, but it’s on our minds.”
“However long he plays, we’d like him to be at the Panthers.”
This will be music to the ears of Penrith fans, who may have been concerned that Cleary junior would follow father Ivan to the Tigers.
Now they can go back to worrying about where their next win is coming from.
