The Tigers have signed Josh Reynolds, but that doesn’t mean the market for Panthers five-eighth Te Maire Martin has dried up.
According to Seven News reporter Josh Massoud, the New Zealand Warriors have identified the injured Panthers five-eighth as a possible replacement for departing pivot Kieran Foran.
It’s baffling why the Panthers would want to release the Kiwi international without a ready-made replacement on the books (Bryce Cartwright isn’t a long-term option, and frankly shouldn’t be a short-term option, either), and coach Anthony Griffin this week rubbished reports that Martin was out of favour at the club. However, perhaps if the Warriors were to offer a swap for their own under-appreciated five-eighth Tui Lolohea, it may be a better fit for both teams and players.
Either way, both sides must be looking to improve, or they risk carrying on being terrible. And that’s a viable possibility, too.
