Desperate times call for desperate measures.
Equal last on the Telstra Premiership ladder with just a solitary win from the opening 7 rounds, the Titans are at least considering gambling on an early return for star fullback Jarryd Hayne, after he was named on an extended bench for this weekend’s clash with Cronulla.
Hayne hasn’t played since injuring his ankle in Round 2, and 6 weeks would be considered the absolute minimum recovery time for a high ankle sprain.
Complicating matters is the sparkling recent form of fill-in fullback Tyrone Roberts, who faces being squeezed out of the run-on side despite being one of the best Titans players thus far.
We’d be critical of rushing a star player back earlier than necessary, but given their bulging casualty ward and lowly ladder position, you can’t blame them for being all hands on deck.
