Cronulla coach Shane Flanagan has suggested that the Sharks could be interested in signing off-contract Bulldogs utility Josh Reynolds.
According to an AAP report, Flanagan said “If he’s going to leave the Bulldogs, I’ll talk to him.”
He continued, “He’s one of those players you look for, and if you need points, get the ball in Josh’s hands.”
Call us skeptical, but this just smells like lip service to us. The Sharks’ halves Chad Townsend and James Maloney are well entrenched at the Shire, and between James Segeyaro and Jayden Brailey, they seem set at hooker as well. It’s difficult to imagine Cronulla being willing to pay Reynolds’ reported $800,000 per season asking price for a bench utility.
Still, it’s unusual for a current NRL coach to so openly declare their interest in an opposition player, so it’s worth noting.
