Not content with the discreet erosion of available talent that eventually led to the canning of the annual City vs Country clash after this year, the Bulldogs have reportedly decided to pull out a year early, and leave it to everyone else to pick up the slack.
According to SMH, the Bulldogs have told the NRL that their players are off limits for the final fixture. Coach Des Hasler reportedly doesn’t wish to risk his players in a match deemed irrelevant (by other NRL clubs, probably not by people from the country).
While we understand the sentiment, it’s unbelievably arrogant of the Bulldogs to try and pull this move, as every NRL coach would likely feel the same, but understand that the match is going ahead, and the players must be sourced from somewhere. Any players not selected from the Bulldogs will necessarily have to be replaced with players from other clubs, increasing their burden as a result.
For this reason, we hope the NRL politely tells the Bulldogs to shove it.
