The plot thickens.
Following yesterday’s reports that the Warriors may be forced to release forward Ben Matulino due to salary cap restraints, comes word that the Warriors have a replacement already in mind – Tigers captain Aaron Woods.
According to a story on New Zealand site Stuff, Warriors coach Stephen Kearney is unhappy with the Warriors’ forwards performance (fair enough), and views Woods as the man to fix it.
If yesterday’s report that the Warriors are feeling salary cap pressure is true, then this story suggests that Matulino isn’t the only current Warrior who won’t be retained for 2018. Other big name Warriors off-contract include Shaun Johnson, Jacob Lillyman, Bodene Thompson and, notably, Keiran Foran, who yesterday alluded to a possible Sydney return.
This is one of the more intriguing storylines we’ve heard recently. One way or another, Woods looks to be in line for a big payday.
