Raiders forward Josh Papalii today pleaded guilty to a high-range drink driving charge from January this year.
As a result, some outlets are reporting that Papalii may be dropped from Australia’s Test side as a result.
We typically wouldn’t report on what trouble Papalii has gotten into in his own time in the first place (because firstly, we don’t care; and secondly, because the reporting of such behaviour only serves to normalise it for young people following the sport), however the threat to his spot in the Test team now makes the story relevant.
We think it would be odd to see Papalii dropped for a crime he committed three months ago (and if it was an issue, coach Mal Meninga could easily have called Papalii and asked him what he planned to plead, prior to naming Papalii yesterday), but regardless, it remains likely that Papalii will in the face some sort of punishment from the NRL.
And that’s all we have to say about that.
