Forgive us if you’ve heard this one before.
According to the Newcastle Herald, veteran Sharks forward Chris Heighington is considered “a strong chance” of joining the Knights, after not being offered a contract in the Shire.
If this sounds familiar, it’s because it is – 12 months ago Heighington was linked to a move to Newcastle, before the Sharks came to the party and offered him a one-year extension. Now that contract has expired, but the Knights’ interest is apparently as strong as ever.
According to the report, if Heighington (who turns 36 next year) and Jacob Lillyman (who’ll turn 34, and is also expected to join Newcastle) were to start alongside each other, they’d form the oldest front row combination in the history of the club.
It’s unclear from the tone of the article whether or not they consider that a good thing.
