Knights go cold on Luke, Ross

September 25, 2018, 5:20 pm By Joel Leave a Comment

The Knights’ roster remains in a period of transition, and as a result, their interest in different players is likely to remain fluid.

Two players apparently no longer of interest to Newcastle are Warriors hooker Issac Luke and Knights winger White Lightning, according to WWOS reporter The Mole.

In the case of Luke, the Knights had been in negotiations with the Kiwi Test star, and were believed to be favourites for his signature. However, with Sharks hooker James Segeyaro believed to be available, the report suggests that he’s now their primary target.

The case of Lightning is a bit more complicated, with the popular winger still under contract for another two seasons.

However, with the Knights having bolstered their backline for next year with the additions of Jesse Ramien and Edrick Lee, Lightning is now surplus to requirements, and it’s believed that the club have notified NRL and Super League clubs that he’s for sale.

Luke has played 254 first grade games for the Warriors and Rabbitohs, and 42 Tests for New Zealand.

Lightning has played 60 first grade games for the Knights.

Bulldogs linked to Segeyaro

July 31, 2018, 11:12 pm By Joel Leave a Comment

Having cleansed their roster of all its high-priced talent, it’s now time for the Bulldogs to commence their rebuild. One would expect that their salary cap situation would preclude them from signing any major name-brand players, but apparently that mightn’t necessarily be the case.

According to WWOS reporter The Mole, the Bulldogs are exploring the possibility of recruiting Sharks hooker James Segeyaro, and believe they could fit him into their new look squad.

Segeyaro has been in excellent form this year, and it’s unlikely that the Sharks would be willing to get into a bidding war for his services, given that he’s only the backup to Jayden Brailey anyway.

Whether or not he’d make the Bulldogs significantly better remains to be seen, but hey, they’ve got to start somewhere.

As long as it’s not a back-ended deal.

Segeyaro has played 133 first grade games for the Sharks, Panthers and Cowboys, and 5 Tests for Papua New Guinea.

Eels linked to Segeyaro

July 3, 2018, 10:48 pm By Joel Leave a Comment

With their 2018 season already down the gurgler, it’s time for the Eels to assess their roster and start the climb back to relevance.

To that end, it would appear that they’ve identified hooker as a position of need. According to WWOS reporter The Mole, the Eels are looking at Sharks hooker James Segeyaro as a potential upgrade.

Segeyaro is off contract at the end of this season, and as the back-up to Jayden Brailey at Cronulla, it’s likely he’d earn more with a starting role elsewhere.

The article also mentions the Tigers as a potential landing spot for Segeyaro, where he could play under his former Panthers coach Ivan Cleary.

Segeyaro has played 130 first grade games for the Sharks, Panthers and Cowboys, and 5 Tests for Papua New Guinea.

Segeyaro still 6 weeks away

May 25, 2017, 12:00 am By Joel Leave a Comment

The Sharks finally have a return date for injured hooker James Segeyaro, and unfortunately he won’t be available to help them through the Origin period.

Segeyaro’s targeted return has been announced as Round 19, immediately after the conclusion of the State of Origin series.

He’ll miss clashes with the Bulldogs, Storm, Tigers, Sea Eagles and Roosters.

Segeyaro initially broke his arm in Round 6, and was expected to miss just six weeks. However, the injury required surgery, which ultimately will have seen him miss 3 months of football by the time he returns to the field.

Segeyaro out with broken arm

April 11, 2017, 11:32 am By Joel Leave a Comment

The year of Cronulla hooker James Segeyaro has finally come full circle, with the Sharks rake to miss around six weeks with a broken arm.

It was a broken arm a little over 12 months ago that set off the chain of events that led Segeyaro to the Sharks in the first place. In his absence from the Panthers side, he was Wally Pipped by Peter Wallace, which made him expendable and saw him arrive at Leeds on a six month deal. He then chose to extend that contract for a further 2 years, before throwing a tantrum and refusing to go back to England.

A legal tussle ensued, an agreement was reached with Leeds for his release, and bingo, bango, bongo – he’s sitting back in Cronulla with another broken arm.

Things have a funny way of working out.
