With the Titans now out of the finals race, there’s no use trotting out injured young players, and risking further damage to them. Accordingly, the Titans have now put utility Karl Lawton on ice for the rest of the season.
According to nrl.com, Titans coach Neil Henry has ruled Lawton out, declaring that he needs shoulder surgery, and would like him ready for a full pre-season.
“We need to get him fixed,” Henry said. “He was brave in the last game against the Wests Tigers, but he still jarred it and pulled up a bit sore.”
“He’s signed here for the next few years, so he needs to get a pre-season in, so he’ll go for surgery.”
It’s commendable that the Titans are putting Lawton’s welfare over winning a few more games that won’t ultimately matter too much anyway.
Lawton re-signed with the Titans for three more years, last month.
