It sounds like while Knights coach Nathan Brown has been out dining with every off-contract star in the NRL, he should perhaps have been spending a little more time at home.
According to Triple M, the Rabbitohs are targeting Knights star Dane Gagai, and they’re “reasonably confident about getting him.”
“He’s part of a reshaping of (the Rabbitohs) backline for next year,” said reporter Brent Read. “And they’re pretty hopeful that they’ll get an answer from Gagai as soon as Monday.”
While the Knights have been aggressive on the recruitment front, signing teenage Cowboys sensation Kalyn Ponga and most recently being linked to Cooper Cronk and James Graham, to lose Gagai would be absolutely disastrous. Gagai bleeds red and blue, and has been the lone shining light through the darkest period in Newcastle history.
Oh well. At least they’ve still got Jaelen Feeney.
Gagai has played 121 first grade games for the Knights and Broncos, and 4 Origins for Queensland.
He’s #8 on The Obstruction Rule’s Free Agent Top 100.
