Gambling mouthpiece and former fringe first-grader Joel Caine has taken to twitter to share a rumour that Ivan Cleary has agreed to join a club. And it’s not Wests.
“Cleary sorted for a club. Announcement imminent! NOT THE TIGERS!” (his caps, not ours) read the tweet. Media outlet Sporting News then took the rumour a step further, joining the dots to link Cleary to the Bulldogs, and Canterbury coach Des Hasler to the Tigers.
The Hasler rumour seems largely unfounded, but Cleary to the Bulldogs would make sense. If Hasler were indeed to get sacked, Cleary would be the best available replacement. From Cleary’s perspective, the Bulldogs would surely be a more enticing option than the Tigers, who are developing a reputation for chewing up and spitting out coaches. Whatever happens, Cleary suddenly appears to be in hot demand.
