The Panthers have made it fairly clear that captain Matt Moylan isn’t for sale, but if that were to change, he’d have no shortage of suitors.
One such option would be the Tigers, after their coach Ivan Cleary declared to nrl.com that he’d be “interested”, in the event that Moylan were to become available.
“My understanding is he wants to stay, and has never indicated that he wants to leave,” Cleary said. “But would I be interested? Yes.”
“I rate him as a player and a person.”
“[But] that hasn’t happened yet, and it’s speculation.”
Of course, there’s no guarantee that Moylan will ever become available. He’s contracted to the Panthers for another four seasons, and at this stage, the only word coming out of Penrith is that both club and player want to see that out.
Still, it’s surely disconcerting to Penrith management to have an opposition coach openly expressing their potential interest in one of their contracted players.
